Mark Eisenhart’s inspiring saga of dropping 215 pounds from his six-foot, 455-pound frame is remarkable, but that’s not the end of the story. His total commitment to self-transformation in body, mind and spirit is a work in progress, but the Ohio native has embarked upon a far-reaching campaign to allow others to share in the wisdom he has gained from the experience and reproduce it in their own lives.

Enjoying more zzz’s is not usually associated with weight loss, but a growing number of epidemiological studies suggest that insufficient sleep may be linked to a greater risk of weight gain. Sometimes referred to as the aristocrat of vegetables, asparagus has been cultivated for more than 2,000 years. The crop reaches its peak during April and May.
Venice-based spiritual bookstore Mystic Journey, serving the west side since October 2008, has outgrown its original storefront and recently moved to a new location. “Thanks to our fabulous, wonderful, amazing customers, whose support has fueled our incredible growth and allowed us to expand into our new, beautiful space,” effuses owner Jeffrey Segal. Daniel Bomfim, store manager of Helen’s Cycles Manhattan Beach location, reported the first pronounced increase in the number of customers looking for commuter bikes during the spring of 2008. During that time, Los Angeles was seeing record gas prices, bounding well over the $4.00 mark. While current sales of commuter bicycles at the area’s six Helen’s Cycles may not match the peak in 2008, the volume has continued to remain well above pre-2008 levels.
According to Bomfim, the top-selling three commuter bikes at Helen’s are as follows:
- Trek Verve 1
- Trek FX
- Cannondale Bad Boy
Helen’s Cycles has six area locations: Arcadia, Beverly Grove (I.Martin Imports), Manhattan Beach, Marina Del Rey, Santa Monica and Westwood. For more information, call 310-829-1836 or visit HelensCycles.com.
Trading in the car keys for more two-wheeled time could curb many of society’s woes, from spiraling healthcare costs to deepening carbon footprints. Yet, the main reason many bicyclists love going for a spin is that it yields a greater sense of well-being and contributes to a healthier, more rewarding life.
